- Indoor lectures/socials began later the same year.
- Fell walks started in the following year.
- Weekend breaks began in 1931 and became annual walking
weekends in 1967
- A scheme for the prepayment of summer ramble coach fare was
proposed in 1939, but didn’t start until after WWII. These are Autorambles.
- The first continental holiday was in 1952 and the most recent in 2005. The Club has been to Austria (3 times), France (2), Ireland (2), Slovenia (3), and
Switzerland (3 times).
Highlights of WRC history
Whitehaven Rambling Club was formed at the instigation of Roland Taylor, who organised a trial ramble to Eskdale on 3rd June 1928,
during which the club was formed
